Glitched-On Bop
Glitched-On Bop is a five-part suite of jazz compositions that have been transformed into semi-controllable electroacoustic environments. The suite’s title is a homage to Wendy Carlos’s Switched-On Bach, and each movement’s title is a “glitched” version of the title of the composition it’s based on:
“Donnaleelannod” = “Donna Lee” by Charlie Parker
“Pemm Pemm Ican Pemmmm” = “Pemmican” by Cecil Taylor
“Jjjjjjj (Satchidananda)” = “Journey In Satchidananda” by Alice Coltrane
“EevVidIenDceEevNidCenEce” = “Evidence” by Thelonious Monk
“Rollem Em Roll Em” = “Roll ‘Em” by Mary Lou Williams
While the listener does not need to know the originals to enjoy these glitched-on reworkings, listeners familiar with the originals might catch a few “Easter eggs” hidden inside each arrangement.
